WHY YOU SHOULD HIRE A FILM PHOTOGRAPHER

Film is an integral part of our style and photography experience. There is something so special about the grain, the grit, and the ethereal qualities found in analog film. Film evokes a sense of nostalgia, connecting us directly the past and We want to bring that nostalgic quality to your wedding day.

This blog post aims to articulate my perspective and shed light on the significance of film photography in a world driven by instant gratification.

So what is film photography?  While different forms of cameras have been around since the Middle Ages no one had created a way to capture lasting photos until Joseph Nicephore Niepce in 1827. Then in 1888, camera film like we use today, was invented by a man named George Eastman. Since it’s creation we have used various forms of that film to make the images you see today.

The nostalgic feel of film is unmistakable. When you see a photo taken on a film camera you can automatically tell it’s analog, which makes it one of a kind. It’s raw, real, and unpolished.

While shooting film we focus on being intentional with every image we take. Each shot requires careful thought and precision, as there are no instant previews or unlimited retakes.

35 mm/ 120  film are both formats that have been around for over 100 years and there is something so beautiful about having images made in a format that has lasted that long.

We want you to look at your images and feel what the day was like. We want to capture unexpected moments in a real and vulnerable way.

In an era dominated by digital convenience, film photography remains a captivating and cherished art form. As a film photographer, specializing in weddings and now venturing into editorial work, I have come to appreciate the unique qualities and invaluable skills associated with shooting on film.

The unpredictable nature of film creates a certain allure that cannot be replicated.

While it is true that shooting on film can be expensive, this very aspect imparts a valuable lesson in resourcefulness. Every frame becomes precious; each click carries a cost. Developing this knowledge contributes to growing as an artist, enhancing our ability to capture the imperfect/perfect moment.

Film photography requires an understanding of light, exposure, and composition. The careful use of these elements enriches the photographer's understanding of the craft. The process of meticulously selecting the right film and gear for each unique setting ensures the utmost attention to detail.

There is an undeniable charm associated with film photography that is difficult to replicate. The inherent quality of film, characterized by its distinctive color palette and gentle grain, lends an air of timelessness and romanticism to the captured images.

As film photographers, we cherish the art form not only for its aesthetic qualities but for the mindset it cultivates. Film photography reminds me of the importance of patience, craftsmanship, and seeing the world through light and exposure.
